We are One Ilocos Sur!

The Kannawidan Festival is an annual cultural festival held in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur, Philippines. It celebrates the rich history and culture of the Ilocano people, featuring a variety of events and activities such as street dances, parades, beauty pageants, food fairs, and exhibits showcasing the city's heritage and traditions. The festival is usually held in January, and it attracts both local and foreign visitors who come to experience the vibrant colors, sounds, and flavors of Ilocano culture.

On January 28, 2023, an opening event was held at the Capitol of Vigan City to kick off the current Kannawidan Ilocos Festival. The mentioned event lasts for two weeks, so it will end when Valentine's Day is celebrated. Different competitions are held during the festival to showcase the ingenuity, inventiveness, and sportsmanship of Ilocanos. The Ms. Ilocos Sur, at which Ilocano beauty queens competed for a crown, battle bands, and dancing competitions were a few of the competitions. Many more competitions round out the festival's celebration. There’s also the Carnival, where Ilocano kids, teens, and families enjoy the rides and other fun games.

Everyone in the province takes great pride in this celebration, which commemorates the establishment of Ilocos Sur as a province by royal decree on February 2, 1818. And for us Ilocanos, Kannawidan is a time to give thanks, celebrate who we are, and share one another’s crafts and goods. We are proud to display our culture and customs to the world.
